For the first time in 132 years, Hotel del Coronado temporarily suspended operations.
The first time in 132 YEARS…
The world has changed. Our way of working, our trends, our hobbies, our communities, and our daily rhythms are different. We are living in a paradigm that is unprecedented and so sudden it feels surreal and there is no date when we go back to the way it used to be. For many of us this evokes concern, anxiety, and fear. And, then, the news – the unfathomable acts of injustice, the protests, the anger, the blame, and disunity. This is not good, and it feels like it is getting worse.
Do you know what isn’t in flux right now?
God. He is still on the throne. He is unchanging, constant, unending.
He is faithful. He is hope.
He is still in control. We are not.
He loves you. And, His love came first. He sent His son to die for our sins while we were still sinners. We are no longer held in the bondage of sin. Christ has redeemed us, forgiven us and set us free to be who we were meant to be.
What would happen if we; as business leaders, as parents, as neighbors, as friends, took this love into our zoom calls, into the streets, into the world as it opens back up? Could we be agents of reconciliation - praying and walking alongside those who are scared, hurting and afraid? Could we all begin to listen to other’s points of view, knowing that they too were created in His image? Could we, as Christ followers, strive for unity and compassion instead of criticism and blame? Could we be bold enough to trust Him and share His love with others – even those who are different?
You see, we are all trying to figure this new reality out. There’s no road map on how to reopen, how to restart and how to move forward. But, if we seek Him, if we look to Him with our fears and concerns, He will give us what we need to do His work – especially in the midst of this craziness. Trust Him. He has this and He is not surprised by all that his happening. He is faithful.
Tom did a great lesson from 2008 about trusting God in times that may have felt similar. I hope you’ll watch, listen and learn.
The world IS different today and we won’t be going back to the way it was before the coronavirus. But maybe, just maybe, this is our opportunity to step in with God, reflecting His love, grace and mercy to make our slice of the world even better than it was before.
